Defining media analysis

Defining an analysis technique is just as important as knowing how to best utilise it. Here's what media analysis is and what it entails:

Media analysis is a field of study that falls under content analysis. It's a more concentrated focus that dissects and analyses what it pulls from media sources.

This field is often used within marketing and media strategies to help pinpoint strong and weak areas of planning and implementation. Strategies can then be altered and improved for businesses' and brands' benefit.

Initially, media analysis focussed on TV, radio and print, but it has since grown to include digital and social mediums as well.

It's important to know that media analysis — while falling under content analysis — is not content analysis itself. Read Media analysis versus content analysis: the key differences.
